Got a pit or a pile of pit run? We bring the crusher, screens, loaders and crew to your site and crush it to spec — road mix, base course, chips — stockpiled where you want it.
Pick your rock
Everything is mined, crushed and screened at our Columbus pit. Sizes are the largest stone in the mix — “road mix” keeps the fines so it packs hard; “crushed rock” is screened clean so it drains.

Buying tips
Driveways: 3" or 2" road mix for the base, 3/4" road mix on top. Binder mixes lock tighter on slopes.
Drainage & French drains: clean 1.5" or 3/4" crushed rock — no fines to plug it up.
Fill & build-up: pit run is the cheapest way to raise grade. Cap it with road mix.

Includes 10% extra for compaction and uneven ground. Driveway rule of thumb: 4–6" of road mix over a firm base.

Faction Sand & Gravel is a small, family-owned outfit out of Columbus, Montana. It started as Faction Constructors — a heavy civil company doing excavation, site prep and road work — and over the last few years the pit and crushing side became the main event.
Our management team brings over 85 years of combined experience in heavy civil construction and mining. We sell to homeowners and ranchers, run jobs for contractors, and work for counties, the state and federal agencies.
Before you order
What’s the difference between road mix and crushed rock?
Road mix keeps the fine material (“fines”) in with the rock, so it packs down hard — best for driveways and road surfaces. Crushed rock is screened clean of fines, so water runs through it — best for drainage, bedding and under concrete.
What should I put on my driveway?
For a new driveway: 4–8" of 3" or 2" road mix as a base, topped with 3–4" of 3/4" road mix. For a refresh on a solid base, 3–4" of 3/4" road mix (with binder on slopes) usually does it.
Is there a minimum delivery?
Delivery is priced per load, so you can order less than a full load — the delivery fee is the same. Full loads are the best value.
Can I pick up with my own truck or trailer?
Yes. Come to the pit during hours and we’ll load you and weigh it on the scale. Make sure your truck or trailer is rated for the weight — a yard of road mix is about 1.4 tons.
Do you work for counties and government agencies?
Yes — counties, the state and federal agencies. FEMA documentation is available on request for disaster and emergency work.
How do I pay? Can I open an account?
Contractors, ranches and agencies can set up an account for regular hauling. Call or note it on your quote request.
